Maas MediumDr. James B. Maas, a leading authority and international consultant on sleep and performance, is CEO of Sleep for Success. He has been the Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow, Professor and past Chairman of Psychology, as well as a professor in the graduate fields of Education and Communication at Cornell University. He has also served a professor at the Weill Cornell Medical College-Qatar. Dr. Maas received his B.A. from Williams College and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell. He holds the world’s record for university teaching, having taught more than 65,000 students in his 48 years on the Cornell faculty.

Dr. Maas has held a Fulbright Senior Professorship to Sweden, has been a visiting professor at Stanford University and past-president of the American Psychological Association’s Division on Teaching. He received the Clark Award for Distinguished Teaching at Cornell, and is the recipient of the American Psychological Association’s Distinguished Teaching Award for being the nation’s outstanding educator.

Dr. Maas is a noted filmmaker who has produced nine national television specials for PBS in this country, for the BBC in England, the CBC in Canada, and for Dutch, Danish and Swedish National Television. His films for such organizations as the National Geographic Society, General Motors, Exxon, Upjohn, Metropolitan Life, the McArthur Foundation and the United States Department of Transportation have won 44 major film festivals.

Dr. Maas is one of the world’s most sought after corporate, medical, academic, and professional athletic team speakers. His children’s venture, Remmy and the Brain Train, is an award-winning children’s bedtime story designed to help improve daytime alertness, mood and performance. Sleep for Success! co- authored with Rebecca Robbins is a book designed for business executives, students, parents, and seniors. His latest book for athletes, Sleep to Win!, co-authored with Haley Davis, is receiving rave reviews. In the past two years there have been over 200 articles in the popular press about Dr. Maas’s work on sleep and performance. He appears frequently on national television on programs, such as the TODAY Show, NBC Nightly News, CNN, Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, The View, Regis & Kelly, and ABC’s 20/20. OPRAH devoted an entire hour to Dr. Maas and his research on sleep and performance.

Dr. Maas has recently been appointed as the Chancellor of the United Institute which offers more than 90 (K thru grad school) hi-tech online, affordable, board-certified courses in academics, business, management, and leadership. The program was initiated by former Fulbright Professors and Fulbright Scholars.

Staff

Lane Morris
Lane Morris is the Vice President of Sleep Education at Maas Presentations. She graduated from Texas A&M University in 2019 with a bachelor's of science in Biology. She will begin her full time career as an account executive associate at MiMedx in April of 2021, a company dedicated to making stem cell skin grafts for tissue regeneration. When not working, you can find Lane working out, hiking, or cooking!
Sarah McCain, BA
Sarah is a sleep writer/ educator and holds a BA degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan. She will be getting her MPH (health behavior and health education) in April. She is now working at the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center in Ann Arbor (in the outreach, recruitment, and engagement core) as a research assistant and outreach assistant.
Margaret Liederbach, OD
Margaret Liederbach is Vice President of Sleep for Success and Research Director for Maas Presentations. She holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Loyola University New Orleans and received her medical degree from Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Margaret has a background working in behavioral health sciences, mental health services, and geriatric care and is contributing to the forthcoming book "Sleep Made Simple". Dr. Liederbach is presently in a 5yr surgical residency program in Dayton, Ohio.
Danielle Boehm, RN
Danielle Boehm serves as a sleep educator for Maas Presentations. She completed her nursing education at North Central Michigan College and currently works at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital. Danielle has been involved in sleep medicine for 5 years and has a specific interest in health and wellness programs and practices.
Haley Davis, MD
Haley Davis is the coauthor of Sleep to Win! and contributes to Maas Presentations as a Research Associate and Sleep Educator. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and biology from Cornell University and has received an MD from Columbia University's Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons. She has interned at a Northern Michigan Sleep Disorders Clinic and worked on global heath issues in a hospital in Iquitos Peru.
Lauren Seitz, PA
Lauren Seitz serves as Research Associate and sleep educator for Maas Presentations. She graduated from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in clinical exercise science as well as a Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies. Lauren currently lives in Cody, Wyoming and is practicing as a PA in outpatient neurology at a clinic that has an accredited sleep lab.
Jill Barnum, BA, MA
Jill Barnum serves as a Sleep Educator for families. She lives in Charlevoix, MI with her husband and their four children who range in age from 16 months to nine years. As a parent of young people, she sees the major role sleep plays in their ever-changing stages, including how sleep affects each individual as well as the family. On our staff we refer to her as MegaMommy. Jill is a graduate of Central Michigan University with an education degree in English and Speech and a Masters in the Arts and Humanities. She has 17 years experience teaching high school in Charlevoix and is currently on an extended maternity leave, grateful to be home with her two toddlers. Jill enjoys being active and making memories with family and friends. She is on a mission to learn more and foster stronger sleep habits for her children and herself – believing that getting quality rest helps us to give and get life’s best, face our unique challenges, and experience more joy in our journeys.
Amber Way, BS
Amber Way serves as Associate Sleep Educator for athletes. She is a graduate of Michigan State University and is now a professional massage therapist in Grand Rapids, MI. As a junior in high school, Amber set the all-time Division III record for the State of Michigan in the 3200m. She participates in sleep research studies on changing circadian rhythms, and speaks on extending sleep for improved athletic and academic performance.
Jack Bowers
Jack Bowers serves as Maas Presentation's Director of Web Development. Since overhauling the Sleep for Success and Sleep to Win website in 2015, Jack has maintained and continued to develop Maas Presentation's web presence. Jack is also the founder of Alonesy, the first ever free digital mentoring program for teenagers.

Consultants

Catherine O'Leary, MD, MS, FAWM
Dr. O’leary is a Medical Consultant for Maas Presentations. She received her M.D. and her M.S. in Neurobiology and Anatomy from the University of Rochester in 2015. She graduated with honors from Cornell University in 2010 where she majored in Biological Sciences and enjoyed working as a teaching assistant for Dr. Maas. Dr. O’leary is currently an Emergency Medicine resident at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and holds a fellowship degree in Wilderness Medicine.
Hayley Hughes, PhD
Dr. Hayley Hughes is a Sport Psychology Consultant for Maas Presentations. She is a licensed psychologist and runs a private practice (Hughes Counseling & Sport Psychology, PLLC) based in Raleigh, NC. Dr. Hughes’ passion lies in the understanding of the relationship between the mind/body and performance (and vice versa) in sport, relationships, parenting, and career. She specializes in working with college students, athletes, high performing and/or early-career professionals. In her approach, Dr. Hughes aims to provide skills for peak performance, while also exploring and addressing the potential underlying issues that may be contributing to the problem. These "root" issues could include anxiety, adjustment to developmental changes/transitions, perfectionism, trauma history or recent trauma, body image issues, family conflict, or identity concerns.
Rachel Eklund, MD, RD, CDN
Rachel Eklund is a Dietary Consultant for Maas Presentations. She is a registered dietitian based in New York City. She became involved in sleep medicine research with Dr. Maas and has since contributed to his presentations and publications. Rachel is an avid advocate for nutrition, sleep, and wellness.
Jan Tilley
Jan Tilley, President and CEO of JTA Wellness, is a Nutrition Consultant for Maas Presentations. As a registered dietitian, wellness expert, culinary specialist, Jan is a national leader in nutrition counseling for improved wellness and chronic disease management. Jan holds an MS in Nutrition and has over 20 years of experience in the nutrition industry, including 10 years of private practice working with patients, companies, and business leaders to promote the benefits of wellness. Jan brings insight and common sense to the challenging pursuit of wellness which dramatically impacts our ability to perform at a high level.
Colin Greening, BS, MBA
Colin Greening is a Performance Consultant for Maas Presentations. Colin played with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization in the National Hockey League. He is highly regarded throughout professional hockey for optimizing athletic potential through a passion and commitment to health, wellness, and fitness. During his eight years as a professional hockey player, Colin has developed a wide knowledge and understanding of sleep and nutrition. Through extensive studies, including research and post-graduate work, Colin has written and spoken on the intersection of sleep and nutrition. Colin received his MBA at Harvard University.
