Meet Dr. James B. Maas



Maas MediumDr. James B. Maas, a leading authority and international consultant on sleep and performance, is CEO of Sleep for Success. He has been the Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow, Professor and past Chairman of Psychology, as well as a professor in the graduate fields of Education and Communication at Cornell University. He has also served a professor at the Weill Cornell Medical College-Qatar. Dr. Maas received his B.A. from Williams College and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell. He holds the world’s record for university teaching, having taught more than 65,000 students in his 48 years on the Cornell faculty.

Dr. Maas has held a Fulbright Senior Professorship to Sweden, has been a visiting professor at Stanford University and past-president of the American Psychological Association’s Division on Teaching. He received the Clark Award for Distinguished Teaching at Cornell, and is the recipient of the American Psychological Association’s Distinguished Teaching Award for being the nation’s outstanding educator.

Dr. Maas is a noted filmmaker who has produced nine national television specials for PBS in this country, for the BBC in England, the CBC in Canada, and for Dutch, Danish and Swedish National Television. His films for such organizations as the National Geographic Society, General Motors, Exxon, Upjohn, Metropolitan Life, the McArthur Foundation and the United States Department of Transportation have won 44 major film festivals.

Dr. Maas is one of the world’s most sought after corporate, medical, association, education and professional athletic team speakers. In the past two years there have been over 200 articles in the popular press about Dr. Maas’ work on sleep and performance. Skyler Dees
Skyler Dees is in a Bachelors degree program for nursing at West Coast University in Dallas, Tx. She is pursuing the field of Neonatal or Pediatrics. She is currently volunteering in organizations such as, The March of Dimes, which raises funds for the parents and research of premature babies. Skyler believes that researching the importance of sleep can make a huge difference in her nursing career, both for herself and future patients. She is currently doing research and writing for a revised update of "Power Sleep," Dr. Maas' NY Times Business Best Seller.
Danielle Boehm
Danielle Boehm graduated from North Central Michigan College in Petoskey, Michigan with an associate’s degree in nursing. She is continuing her education as an RN. Danielle has been working in an assisted living facility. She has been involved with sleep medicine for 3 years now. Danielle serves as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and sleep educator for Maas Presentations. She has a specific interest in health and wellness programs and practices.
Jack Bowers
Jack Bowers is a student at Woodberry Forest School. Jack is from Richmond, VA and being a freshman in high school, Jack is very busy. Jack was tasked in 2015 to redesign the Sleep for Success website for Dr. Maas. When not busy with school work, Jack consistently updates the Sleep for Success and Sleep to Win websites. Jack has been working with Dr. Maas since 2015.
Haley Davis
Haley Davis graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and minor in biology. She now works in clinical research at Columbia University Medical Center and plans to continue on to medical school. She has been working with Dr. Maas since 2011 and is the co-author of his latest book, Sleep to Win!
Rachel Eklund RD CDN
Rachel Eklund RD CDN is a registered dietitian based in New York City. As a student at Cornell, she became involved in sleep medicine research with Dr. Maas. She has since remained a member of the team and an avid advocate for nutrition, sleep and wellness. 
Colin Greening
Colin Greening is a professional athlete who plays left wing for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League. He graduated with honors from Cornell University where he served for two years as captain of Cornell’s varsity hockey team. In the off-season he is doing research and writing on the role of nutrition in sports performance.
Hayley Hughes, PhD
Hayley Hughes is a 5th year doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology program at Purdue University. She will be completing her doctoral internship at the Oklahoma Health Consortium with a primary rotation in Sport Psychology. Hayley's clinical interests include the experiences of collegiate athletes, particularly related to transition, identity, and meaning in life
Margaret Liederbach
Margaret Liederbach graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in economics and pre-medical studies. She currently works as a Behavioral Technician in Northern Michigan and plans to continue on to medical school. Margaret has been working with Dr. Maas since 2016 as a Research Associate and Sleep Educator. When she's not sleeping or working, she can be found mountain biking, running, hiking, bikepacking, or quilting.
Catherine O'Leary, MD, MS, FAWM
Katie received her M.D. and her M.S. in Neurobiology and Anatomy from the University of Rochester in 2015. She graduated with honors from Cornell University in 2010 where she majored in Biological Sciences and enjoyed working as a teaching assistant for Dr. Maas. She is currently an emergency medicine resident in Philadelphia at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She holds a fellowship degree in Wilderness Medicine. She enjoys running, triathlons, hiking, skiing, violin, martial arts and travel.
Lauren Seitz
Lauren Seitz graduated from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in clinical exercise science. Lauren is now a graduate student of the Physician Assistant Masters Program. She has been working with Dr. Maas in sleep medicine for the past 2 years as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and sleep educator. Her interests include cooking, hiking, traveling, health & wellness, and photography.
Jan Tilley
Jan Tilley, President and CEO of JTA Wellness, is a registered dietitian, wellness expert, culinary specialist and a national leader in nutrition counseling for improved wellness and chronic disease management.  Holding an MS in Nutrition, Jan has over 20 years of experience in the nutrition industry and has run her private practice for over 10 years.  Jan works with patients, companies and business leaders to promote the benefits of wellness. Jan brings insight and common sense to the challenging pursuit of wellness which dramatically impacts our ability to perform at a high level.
Christina Wallace
Christina Wallace is pursuing a degree in elementary education in Fort Worth, Texas. She serves as office manager in Texas for Maas Presentations and is currently doing research and writing for a revised update of “Power Sleep,” Dr. Maas’ NY Times Business Best Seller.
Amber Way
Amber Way is a cross-country and track varsity athlete majoring in kinesiology at Michigan State University. As a junior in high school Amber set the all-time Division III record for the State of Michigan for the 3200M race. She participates in sleep research studies on changing circadian rhythms, and speaks on extending sleep for improved athletic and academic performance.
